Where do you get your cameras?
Cameras are typically purchased from a wholesaler or donated by individuals. Fujifilm has also generously donated some cameras to support the project. We are currently using branded cameras from Click.
Are all the projects with the homeless?
No, not all projects focus on people who have experienced homelessness. The project was created with a focus on homelessness, but with the goal of bringing a wide range of people together around photography. We believe everyone has an important story to tell and that our stories have intrinsic value.
How can I support the project?
Contributions help fund cameras, printing, framing, and full projects. Examples:
- $20 purchases one disposable camera and covers processing
- $150 buys care packages for 10 photographers dealing with homelessness
- $500 funds prizes for top exhibition photos in our homeless photography projects
- $1000 covers printing of the top 20 photographs for exhibitions
Is the Through Our Eyes Project a 501(c)(3)?
Yes. Contributions are tax deductible.
Can I do a project like this in my city?
Yes. You can adapt the project for your own community. For projects using our branding, structure, and guidance, we are happy to collaborate.

Who are your photographers?
Our photographers have included members of the homeless community, school children, neighbors who have never met, people who have come out of prison, children in the slums of Uganda and more.
Do the photographers get anything for participating?
No, we don’t compensate our photographers. We want to provide the joy that comes with creating art and a platform for sharing their personal stories. In the case of our projects built around homelessness, photographers have received care packages of hygiene products, snacks, bus passes and more. For these projects, we have set aside some funds to reward the photographers whose photos raised the most money. We do not give out cash, but we have purchased items such as workboots, mattresses and other items that help our photographers dealing with homelessness. Public voting determines the top photographers who receive these prizes.
