Theme: Home Photographer: JD Mangrum Title: Sunday Stroll Caption: Our family was walking through the Navy Yard on a Sunday afternoon, looking at the buildings going up (and coming down), and these ladies caught my eye. I watched them coming down the street, talking, enjoying the beautiful day. I loved the one woman's Mike’s Pastry box — though I’m a Bova’s guy myself — and the other woman’s head scarf. I love that our community is made up of people of all kinds of backgrounds, beliefs, and stories. Even in the sea of constant change and development, I love that our family gets to live in a place of such warmth, diversity, and community.

Theme: Life in Charlestown Photographer: Sophia Moon Title: Past Present Retro Caption: In this shot, I was attracted to the juxtaposition of elements - the historical monument and all of the relics of modern day; the bright red vintage automobile and the minivans; light and shadow on opposing sides of the street…they all come together so harmoniously.

Theme: Life in Charlestown Photographer: Janelle Bruno Title: Pit Stop Caption: I was shooting the house across the street and just stopped for a second and gave the street a second look. The light was streaming through the trees and I loved the shadow effect it created on the boys. I also love the street signs in the back and the neighbors out and about. It shows the vibrancy of our neighborhood and also the stillness.

Title: Miss Pam Caption: Miss Pam is a grandmother to all. Pam has worked at the NewTown market for close to 30 years where she can always be found hard at work from ringing in as a cashier or running the neighborhood deli. Pam is a kind-hearted woman and greeted by all who walk through the door, and quick to lend an ear for any kind of chat. Aside from making her famous sandwiches, stocking shelves, and ringing you up, she will dig deep into her pockets to pay for any short-comings you may not have, especially for the neighborhood kids who sometimes have nothing at all. Who couldn’t love a face like that?

Photographer: Jimmy MacPhee Caption: I awakened this morning today, May 7th, is the one year anniversary of the move to my own place. For 45 years, I lived in an 8x10’ cell, barely 80 square feet; the size of most people’s bathroom. Today, the Lord has provided me with a 1000 square foot apartment. I used to tell myself in prison that when I was able to have my own place, I wanted every room in the house to be larger than a prison cell. Thank you, God!

My step-dad has defied the laws of aging not just by looking this great in his 70’s but his room reflects all the time that has come and gone with more and more objects surrounding him at the end of each year. Every time I step into his room I get to experience nostalgia at its finest.
